18 February 2018, Muscat: With the All-New 2018 Terrain, GMC enters a new chapter of design seamlessly blending the finer details with the offering of an unforgettable drive with turbocharged engines.
From shedding nearly 500 pounds overall, striking C-shaped LED signature lighting to a floating roof and an innovative Electronic Precision Shifter, the model has entered a new generation further widening its appeal. Its tagline ‘Get Ready Like a Pro’ reiterates its commitment of packing in a punch despite its compact size.
The 2018 Terrain has a distinct presence. It has been redesigned from the ground up with stronger, sharper and more sculpted elements. Each of the trim has a distinctive grille. The striking C-shaped LED signature lighting shapes the Terrain’s powerful front end and along with the HID headlamps, providing brilliant light to cut through darkness. Tail lamps with LED signature lighting complete the model’s bold design from front to back. Its smoother styling along with a stunning floating roof imbues it with more visual lightness.
The versatile and purposeful interior of the all-new 2018 Terrain is a seamless extension of the exterior creating a cohesive look. A combination of bold styling, first-class comfort and plenty of space is as much about refinement as it is about utility.
However, the biggest change is the transmission – the traditional shift gives way to an innovative Electronic Precision Shifter, a series of push and pull buttons mounted low on the centre stack below the climate control system that frees up a lot of console space. Park, neutral and low are all selected by pushing buttons, while reverse and drive are engaged by pulling up on switches that resemble power window controls.
The ‘Floating’ Rear Pillar is a notable detail that adds to the 2018 Terrain style statement. The model also features a standard leather wrapped steering wheel, real aluminium trim and soft-touch materials to enhance the driving experience and maximize comfort for both, the driver and passengers. Comfortable firm front bucket seats have no hard spots where the elbows come to rest and there is plenty of space for the rear passengers as well.
The versatility of the Terrain 2018 not only allows for the second-row seats to fold flat but also the front passenger seat that makes it possible for the vehicle to accommodate objects up to 8 feet long. A hands-free power programmable liftgate makes loading cargo easier than ever.
Quiet and comfortable, the Terrain 2018 offers an enjoyable driving dynamics. A range of two all-new turbocharged gas engines, including the new 1.5L with 170-hp and 2.0L with 252-hp are paired with nine-speed automatic transmissions, advanced Stop/Start technology and cap-less fuel fill.
Front Wheel Drive (FWD) is standard that comes with the following modes:
- Normal/Tour: Optimised for everyday driving conditions
- Rain/Snow: Lessens chance of wheel slippage in low traction driving conditions
All-Wheel Drive (AWD) models is optional that features the following modes:
- FWD: Improves fuel economy in normal/everyday driving conditions by mechanically disconnecting the rear axle and eliminating the drag it causes
- AWD: Actively sends power to the front and rear wheels to maximise traction on dry, wet or snow/ice-covered roads
- Off-Road: Adjusts AWD system, traction control and stability control to improve traction and driving dynamics on dirt, gravel and sand
All Terrain 2018 trims come with touchscreen infotainment system and Bluetooth technology that helps to keep connected to a world of information, communication and entertainment. The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Compatibility project the phone’s screen and select apps on to the centre screen to access texts, maps, music and more.
There is a suite of intuitive driver-assist and safety technologies that include the latest active safety features such as parking camera, forward-collision warning, low-speed automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. General Motors’ ubiquitous vibrating Safety Alert Seat also is available wherein the seat vibrates in concert with visual warnings related to the parking sensors and the collision-warning systems.
