At 12 noon on the 10th of July, OMEGA’s new #SpeedyTuesday timepiece was available for sale via its @OMEGA Instagram channel. In just under two hours, all 2,012 pieces had been sold.

OMEGA’s Speedmaster Limited Edition 42 mm “Ultraman” has proven to be a huge hit with watch fans around the world. The new Limited Edition timepiece was snapped-up in just 1 hour, 53 minutes and 17 seconds.

The new watch is a tribute to the key character in the ULTRAMAN series, a collection of shows created by Tsuburaya Productions in Japan. ULTRAMAN is one of the most famous examples of the Kaiju “giant monster” genre.

Though OMEGA’s new “Speedy Tuesday” certainly has a sense of fun, with its 70’s Japanese sci-fi references, the Speedmaster “Ultraman” boasts genuine space credentials, as it shares its DNA with OMEGA’s 1967 “Moonwatch”.

A stand-out feature of that classic ’67chronograph was its distinctive orange seconds hand, which drew the attention of the production team behind the fourth instalment in the ULTRAMAN series: RETURN OF ULTRAMAN. As the bold orange perfectly matched the suits of the heroic Monster Attack Team, OMEGA’s “Moonwatch” became an essential part of their beast-battling kit.

On the new “Ultraman” the seconds hand draws its inspiration from the ’67 original, embracing the same dimensions and shade of orange. As an extension of this theme, the new watch also features a black/orange bezel in anodized aluminium.

The classic Speedmaster subdials of the new “Speedy Tuesday” hold a few surprises. As Ultraman was only able to stay in superhero-mode for 3 minutes, the minute subdial at 3 o’clock features the first 3 minutes picked-out in orange. On the seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, there’s a hidden silhouette of Ultraman’s profile, which is revealed by a special tool available with the watch. The strap changer, identical to Ultraman’s Beta Capsule, features a UV lamp at one end, which when shined on the dial, reveals the image.

A vintage OMEGA logo on the dial adds a retro touch and the caseback features an engraving of #SpeedyTuesday and the words QUALIFIED BY NASA FOR ALL MANNED SPACE MISSIONS. The watch is presented on a black and orange NATO strap and comes with a spare black leather strap.

Limited to just 2,012 pieces, the OMEGA Speedmaster 42 mm “Ultraman” is a true collectable and is presented in its own hexagonal box: a tribute to the futuristic table used by Ultraman’s Monster Attack Team.

A modern timepiece powered by an original movement from 1913

OMEGA is a company world-renowned for its pioneering history of exquisite craftsmanship. Now, for its latest creation, the brand has reintroduced a real piece of technology from its past. The “First OMEGA Wrist-Chronograph Limited Edition” is an ambitious new collection comprising of just 18 watches – with each one housing an original 18’’’ CHRO calibre from 1913.

Through a special and dedicated process, the prized calibres have been delicately refurbished by the experts at OMEGA’s Atelier Tourbillon and given a new lease of life for use inside these new Limited Edition models.

The “First OMEGA Wrist-Chronograph Limited Edition” was proudly launched at the brand’s “Museum Night” in Biel, Switzerland on July the 2nd. As well as hearing from some very special speakers, guests were also treated to the first glimpse of the new watch.

Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA said, “In all my years at this company, I’ve never seen a project quite like this one. The movements are 105 years old, but now their story is set to continue. The skill involved in the refurbishment and craftsmanship is remarkable and we’re very proud to now share the results.”

In 1913, OMEGA became one of the world’s earliest producer’s of wrist-chronographs and the acclaimed 18’’’ CHRO calibre was integral to that achievement. For today’s project, the OMEGA Museum played a significant role in supplying the 18 original 18”’ CHRO calibres, which were retrieved from heritage timepieces within their vaults.

For the outside design of the 47.5 mm timepieces, OMEGA has followed the look of an OMEGA wrist-chronograph from 1913, with classic details such as the riveted leather strap and the white enamel dial with blued “Empire” hands and hollow Arabic numerals. This design was a favourite amongst military personnel during the First World War. Aviators, especially, were drawn to the easy-to-read dial design and 15-minute counters which were ideal for the most challenging missions. Numerous models were delivered to the Royal Flying Corps and used by some of the most famous wartime pilots and soldiers in history.

Modern materials have also been included, such as 18K white gold for the case, and 18K Sedna™ gold for the crown and pusher. The classic design also features a hatched caseback, which can be flipped open to reveal the refurbished movement positioned behind sapphire-crystal.

 Omani based fashion label, Bthaina announces the launch of its debut footwear collection. The new product line is an extension of the womenswear collection, featuring the same inspiration and design elements of the luxury kaftans and jalabiyas.

Fusing exquisite detail with refined comfort, the first footwear collection is inspired by Bthaina’s Ivory Ocean season and is available in six embellished slide styles. Feminine and effortlessly elegant, the slides are expertly handcrafted from silk and are adorned with metallic thread, knots and shimmering crystals. Suitable for both day and night, the slides add an opulent touch to any outfit.

Buthaina Anees Al Zadjali, Designer, Bthaina says, “I am thrilled to announce the launch of my new footwear collection! My dream is to create a one stop destination for fashion lovers so the introduction of shoes is part of my long term plan for the brand. The core DNA of Bthaina is to fuse impeccable quality and intricate embroidery with luxurious comfort. So with this in mind I referenced design elements from my Ivory Ocean collection and incorporated them into handcrafted, embellished slides that are comfortable yet elegant.”

The footwear collection is currently available at the Bthaina Boutique in Muscat with more locations to be added soon.
